Beginning in August, the St. Mary's middle school science department will be under the direction of Talcott Mountain Science Center professionals. They will manage the science curriculum and conduct classes for grades six through eight under the leadership of the St. Mary's School administration. Talcott Mountain Science Center has provided outreach classes and specialized programs for St. Mary's students in grades K through eight for more than three decades. They will continue to provide these interactive and unique educational programs and classes for the elementary grades. Marie Gannatti, St. Mary's School principal, comments, "We announced plans for a new science laboratory in late 2009. Now, we further reinforce our commitment to science with this new level of partnership with Talcott Mountain Science Center. This partnership will give us a unique advantage in that we're able to offer a quality science program in a faith-based environment." Jonathan Craig, director of Talcott Mountain Science Center, adds, "We are thrilled with our relationship with St. Mary's School. This level of partnership is new for us as well, and we feel St. Mary's School is the ideal partner to embark on it with. Science is what we do best; we feel we can make a great contribution here." St. Mary's School will hold an Open House on Tuesday, April 6, at 6:30 p.m. A faculty member from Talcott Mountain Science Center will give a presentation providing more information about the new middle school science program. All are welcome to attend. St. Mary's School is the Farmington Valley's only Catholic school for age 3 through eighth grade. It is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges.
