CHOICE Sale days are Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8:30-9:30 AM.
You may stop in the office for purchases on these days at the designated time to purchase your cards in person instead of through kidmail. If you have any question about the program or your CHOICE account, please contact Tammy Budnick at email@example.com.
What is CHOICE?
The CHOICE gift card program is a unique fundraiser for St. Mary’s School. Each year, the CHOICE program makes a significant contribution to defray the school’s operating expenses. For 2015-2016, the CHOICE commitment to the operating budget will be approximately $44,000. CHOICE is crucial to St. Mary’s School because the cost of educating our children exceeds our per student tuition. As with tuition, the CHOICE program is part of your financial obligation to the school.
The program works like this: the school purchases CHOICE gift cards for less than their face value. The cards are then sold to SMS families at face value, with the difference retained by the school as profit. There is a large selection of vendors, ranging from local grocery stores and restaurants, to local oil companies, to department stores and national chains.
Example: Stop & Shop currently has a profit percentage of 5%. If you purchase a $50 gift card, $2.50 goes towards your annual obligation. If you buy a $300 card, $15.00 goes towards your obligation. If a family buys a $600 oil certificate from a company whose profit rate is 10% (oil companies currently range from 5% to 10%), then $60 will go towards that family’s obligation. The larger the profit percentage (and the larger the purchase), the more quickly you will accumulate your profits and meet your obligation.
Please note that if your family’s obligation is $360, this does not mean that you need to purchase $360 worth of cards; it means that you must generate $360 in profits for the school.
Each St. Mary’s School family with students in grades K-8 is required by school board policy to raise a specific amount of money as noted on the tuition schedule. These profits must be raised through the purchase of CHOICE cards from May 1, 2016 through April 30, 2017. If a family chooses not to participate, they may “opt out” by writing a check for the specified amount made payable to “SMS CHOICE”, with “Opt-Out” written in the memo field (check should be separate from the Family Enrollment Fee). Families with students enrolled only in the prekindergarten program are not required to participate in CHOICE, but are welcome and encouraged to do so.
Throughout the school year, statements detailing the amount of profits you have earned will be sent out. Families that have not met their financial commitment by April 30, 2017 will be expected to pay any remaining balance before May 15, 2017. If a family meets some, but not all, of their obligation by April 30, the remaining balance will be due by May 15.
Once your family has earned the required profit for the 2016-2017 school year, you will be asked to choose a direction for any profits earned from your continued CHOICE purchases over and above your obligation.
DIRECTIONS FOR ORDERING:
Regular "in-stock" orders may be placed via "kidmail". Click here to download an order form and send in with payment, with your child in an envelope marked "CHOICE ORDER". You order will be filled on a choice sale day and returned home to you with your child. Usually the same day or very next day.
Special Orders take one week to arrive. If you place an order for gift cards that are not kept in stock, we order them the week you place your order and they arrive the following week and will go home with your child unless you ask us to hold the order in the office for pick up. For a complete list of "Special Order" vendors, please Click here and at the bottom of the displayed page select "Retailer List" under Quick Links.
