Dear Friends of St. Mary’s School,
Could it be that St. Mary‘s School is entering its 60th year? Yes, it is true and what a great history of quality Catholic education has resulted. Whatever constituency you represent, alum, current or past parent, friend, YOU are part of this history and, even more importantly, the FUTURE of this school. This last year saw renewed efforts in the Advancement Office to provide support in the raising of funds, marketing and admissions. We look forward to this continued effort to promote the school in every way possible. You will notice a new logo on this page – a nice, new refreshed visual representation that speaks to a new generation of young people.
This last year was a busy one with several new initiatives. Several new clubs were offered and students had outstanding achievements in a few areas. The IOWA standardized test scores from the spring were very high and qualify St. Mary‘s School to apply for Blue Ribbon status! This was the result of a concerted effort by the teachers to address the skills required on the tests and also the efforts of the students. We will keep you apprised of the progress in the competitive Blue Ribbon program. Also, our Girls’ Varsity basketball team came in first place in the Deanery! A great accomplishment for our Knights!
In preparation for the New England Association of Schools and Colleges Accreditation process, the School’s Mission Statement was revised, a new logo introduced and the web site was refreshed. These things need to be done every few years so the school is well-positioned now to prepare the Self-Study that is required for the accreditation.
Of course, many of you participated in the community and fund raising efforts over the last year including the Carnival and the Golf Tournament and Auction. These events were extremely successful due to the hard work of many people and the generosity of attendees. One new event that families really enjoyed last year (which will be back!) was the Student Art show at the Hillstead Museum in the winter.
Looking ahead to 2016-17, we anticipate great things! Here are a couple of examples. We will introduce a new grading calendar including trimesters (3 marking periods) instead of the quarter system. Our PreKindergarten and Kindergarten will form the Early Childhood Learning Center (ECLC) to enhance the education of all of our youngest students.
So your donations in the past have helped create this tidal wave of success and we want to continue that tradition. We hope that you will continue to help make St. Mary School the best it can be and carry on for another 60 years!
If you ever have questions or want to see what is happening, please contact the school. We love to share our story.
